Junior boys take Pioneer relays

Girls finish 2nd

GENTRY -- The Blackhawk junior boys track team built up a substantial lead then withstood a late comeback by West Fork to claim the Junior Pioneer Relays Championship , scoring 100 to the Tigers 83. Shiloh put on a dominating show in the girls division, but the Lady 'Hawks bested the other teams in the 13-team competition to claim second.

The junior 'Hawk boys claimed only three first places but superior depth. West Fork claimed five firsts.

Young Blackhawk Caleb Neil claimed the pole vault title with a 9'6" effort while Drake Wolfenden took third (8'6") and Layton Powell finished fifth (6'6") to outscore West Fork 20-0 in the event and their Washington county rivals never recovered.

The other individual winner was Joe Adams who took first in the 110-meter hurdles (19.48) who was also sixth in the 400-meter (58.29). The 4x100-meter relay team was victorious (48.45) and was composed of Cole Brown, Zak Withrow, Josiah Small and Travis Cole.

Other scorers included: Small, second in the 400-meter (56.8); Brown, eighth in the 100-meter (12.57) and fourth in the 200-meter (25.26); Trevor Blair was second in the 300-meter hurdles (50.4); Travis, eighth in the triple jump (34'6") and 100-meter (12.57); Tate Christenson, third in the discus (118'3"); Anthony Bleything, seventh in the shot put (37'0"); Mike Erickson, seventh in the shot put (37'0"); Marcus Nobles, eighth in the 1,600-meter (5:39.6); Jared Brewer, third in the 300-meter hurdles (52.27); and Jorge Vasquez, eighth in the 800-meter (2:32.7).

Besides the 4x100-meter relay, the 4x800-meter relay was second in 9:45.08 (Nobles, Small, Vasquez and Gavin Stanley ) and the 4x400-meter team was third in 4:03.59 (Small, Adams, Duncan Artt and Grayden Edwards).

The final boys standings were: Pea Ridge, 100; West Fork, 83; Lincoln, 77; Shiloh, 74; Gentry, 71; Siloam Springs, 51; Gravette, 40; Decatur, 39; Prairie Grove, 38; Elkins, 24; St. Joseph, 15; and Haas Hall Bentonville, 8.

The girls' strength in the 400-meter outscored the Siloam Spring squad 23-6 in the 400-meter, and 4x400-meter races to prove the difference in the battle for second.

Adelina Means (400 -meter, 1:04.7) and Lauren Wright (pole vault 9'0") were the sole individual winners for the 'Hawks. Means also scored a fifth in the 800-meter (2:46.0).

The 4x800-meter relay won that event by 17 seconds over Shiloh in 10:59.7. Relay members were Harmony Reynolds, Maddison Robinson, Wright and Means. The 4x400-meter relay was second in 4:38.2 (McCracken, Robinson, Smith and Means) and the 4x100-meter relay was third in 55.85 (Kamree Dye, Wright, Smith and Hale).

Other scorers individually were: Olivia McCracken, third in the high jump (4'6"), fourth in the 400-meter (1:08.34), fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (54.69) and eighth in the long jump (12'3"); Claire Hale, seventh in the 100-meter (14.13); Harmony Reynolds, third in the 1,600-meter (6:01.37); Bayleigh Cloud, sixth in the long jump (12'5"); Mikayla Humphrey, fourth in the triple jump (28'4"); Madison Smith, fifth in the triple jump (28'3"); and Dallice White, sixth in the discus (63'3").

Final scores for the girls meet: Shiloh, 147; Pea Ridge, 88; Siloam Springs, 78; Gravette, 65; West Fork, 63; Gentry, 57; Prairie Grove, 44; Decatur, 26; St. Joseph, 24; Elkins, 11; Lincoln, 5; Haas Hall Bentonville, 5; and Lifeway, 3.
