Sponsor the Mule Jump

Deadline nears

Fall in Pea Ridge includes the annual Mule Jump competition. The 29th annual Pea Ridge Mule Jump is slated for Saturday, Oct. 14. The opening ceremony begins at 9 a.m. The event will be held on the field west of Weston Street, north of the City Hall/School Administration building.

What began as friendly competition between coon hunters has become an annual tradition attended by thousands of people. For 28 years, people from around the nation have traveled to Pea Ridge, the town just west of the Pea Ridge National Military Park and the ridge after which both take their name, to watch mules and their owners battle wills over whether the mules will jump a curtain raised regularly until all but one are eliminated.

Last year's winner, Sadie from Ozark, Mo., cleared 63 inches. In 1989, Sunny from Barnstall, Okla., cleared 72 inches.

Sponsorships help with the cost of the event. For sponsorships from $100-$499, the sponsor receives their logo on a shirt and social media recognition; from $500-$999, they receive their logo on shirt, jump banner and social media; and for $1,000 and more, they receive their logo on shirt, large logo on banner, social media, announced at the event, booth space and advertisements on all media, according to committee chairman Nathan See.

Sponsorships will be accepted until Sept. 22, See said, in order for names to be printed on shirts and banners. Vendor applications will be accepted until Oct. 2.

To sponsor or apply as a vendor, contact See at [email protected] or by calling City Hall at 479-451-1122, ext. 104.
