Lock cars and remove all valuables

Three handguns were among items taken from unlocked vehicles in Pea Ridge overnight Monday, Aug. 14,through the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 15, according to police.

"We cannot emphasize enough -- lock your vehicles and never leave a gun in the vehicle," Police Chief Ryan Walker said Tuesday. Walker also said no valuables should be left in a vehicle.

Beginning just after 6 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, residents of several subdivisions notified police of break ins and items missing. Victims were from Washburn Drive, Blair Circle, Daniel Lane and Taylor Lane.

Items taken include wallets with drivers' licenses, cash, credit cards, a Taurus hand gun, a Glock pistol, a Kimber handgun, computer, backpack, phone charger, cigarettes. Some items taken were found lying in the streets, according to the police report.

Walker said that owners of guns are held responsible for their weapons and if a crime is committed with the weapon, the owner could be held responsible.

"Never leave a gun in an unlocked car," Walker concluded.
