Rezone OKd

A rezone request was approved by the Pea Ridge City Council for 10 acres on the south end of St. Clair Street. The rezone from agricultural to R-2, single family residences, was approved by the Planning Commission earlier in the month.

Mayor Jackie Crabtree asked for $7,000 for the library to cover costs of cleanup from a water leak and $9,000 for guttering. Council member Bob Cottingham asked whether there were funds in the library account.

"I'd like to take that out of our county one-cent sales tax," Crabtree said, asking for the funds.

"They have no funds?" Cottingham asked.

"Not enough," Crabtree said, adding there is also sheet rock repair and floor repair to pay for. He said he's investigating whether the Arkansas Municipal League insurance will cover a portion but said the leak was caused by a maintenance issue in the roof and it should have been "caught by the inspector who inspected the roof. We'll revisit it next month."

About 3,500 people attended the Pea Ridge Mule Jump, Nathan See reported, adding that there were 52 vendors and about 50 mules. He commended Sue Elverston and Sandy Laster for the work they do on the event.
