Expenses questioned at Garfield City Council

GARFIELD -- A public hearing to discuss placing a lien on property on North Wimpy Jones Road will be the first item of business at the Oct. 11 City Council meeting.

Twice before, city officials have held a public hearing. The property owner, Judith Champion of Carrollton, Texas, attended the special meeting held Friday, July 29, but the meeting was not official as there was only one council member attending. Then, a public hearing was announced to the public on the water bills for the Sept. 13 meeting, but Champion did not receive a 30-day notice.

Champion verbally requested an itemized account of the expenses for which she is being billed.

On Sept. 29, Champion sent a letter to Mayor Gary Blackburn, City Council members and the city attorney requesting invoices for the $10,681.66 expenses.

Blackburn has said work was done by Northwest Utility Service.

Champion said she intends to attend the Oct. 11 meeting.

Garfield City Council meets at 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Garfield City Hall. The meetings are open to the public.
