Summer reading program begins

Congratulations to all the high school and home school graduates. Many of these students have availed themselves of the library services during their school years and we wish them all the very best.

Just a short time until school is out for the summer and the library is getting ready for the Summer Reading Program. Several new books are on order a trip to the bookstore is on the agenda. The Summer Reading Program is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Children must read on their reading level. By this we mean that if your child is on a fourth grade reading level, books on a second grade level do not qualify. Call or come by the library or visit our web site for complete details on the program.

If you are looking for some summer fun activities to do with the children, log on to www.arkansas.com/events for some great ideas and some discount coupons for various places in the state. An event taking place close to home on May 20-21 is the 40th annual Mudtown Days at Ward Nail Park in Lowell. In addition to the ATV and Side-by-Side Mudcrawl there will be carnival rides, petting zoo, car show, fishing derby and more. The May Festival of the Arts began on May 15 and runs through May 31. There will be one-of-a-kind art exhibits, demonstrations, performances, culinary arts and free music in the park. At the end of the month you might want to take-in the Old Fort Days Rodeo in Fort Smith.

If you prefer something quieter that requires little travel, stop by the library and pick up a good book. Great way to enjoy the world without leaving home.

See you at the library!
