Elkhorn Ridge plat approved

Elkhorn Ridge, a new subdivision on Slack Street, received final plat approve from both the Planning Commission and City Council, both meeting in special sessions at the request of the developer.

Questions about the detention pond and density of the asphalt on Ross Salvage Road were asked, including whether the pond area needed to be fenced according to the city's ordinance that requires a fence around a pond area that holds water.

"It's not going to hold water," M.J. Hensley, engineer and planner, said. "It can hold water for 60 hours." Hensley said that based on the type of soil and size of the pond area, that 40 percent of any water retained would be absorbed within the first hour.

Developer Franklin Miller praised city employees and thanked them for their helpfulness.

City building official Tony Townsend said the letter of credit had to be turned in for the plat to be filed.

The Planning Commission met Wednesday night. The City Council met Thursday afternoon.

Mayor Jackie Crabtree said the council approved the plat.
