Seek assistance dealing with drug or alcohol abuse

National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week:

This week is National Drug and Alcohol Facts week (Jan. 25-31). National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week is a national observance that promotes education regarding harmful drugs and alcohol use. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) began promoting this national observance in 2010 by utilizing science to educate students and adults regarding myths related to drugs and alcohol. This year, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism became a partner to increase education regarding alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction.

While discussing drugs and alcohol with teens and children can be challenging, it is important for parents and guardians to maintain open communication. There are several resources available to students and parents within the school district; school counselors and the school social worker can help direct those interested in educational information and resources.

If you are concerned that you or a family member is needing support, there are several agencies within the northwest Arkansas area. A few of those agencies are: Decision Point, Bentonville: 479-464-1060; Vantage Point, Bentonville: 479-464-8081; and Ozark Guidance, Bentonville: 479-273-9088.
