Kevin Ramey was hired as the new Blackhawk athletic director Monday night.

Ramey, 41, comes to Pea Ridge from Rogers School District where he was the girls basketball coach at Heritage High School. A native of Russellville, Ramey earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Arkansas. He also completed a study in educational leadership from Harding University. He has 17 years experience teaching and coaching.

"Pea Ridge has an outstanding school system," Ramey said. "My family and I are thrilled to be a part of it. It has an outstanding athletic tradition and we look forward to carrying on the tradition and progressing forward as we continue to grow and move into the future."

"As our community grows, and it is growing ... there is a tremendous opportunity. We're going to embrace the change and help grow our athletic program. It's going to be an exciting time," he said.

Ramey, whose father was a football coach and athletic director, said he grew up in a family going to ball games.

"It's what I've always loved. I love helping students and helping them find success in the athletic arena. I'm really excited to be here and work with our community, students and coaches," he said.

The board approved hiring Ramey unanimously.

Ramey's wife, Lindsay, is a school teacher at Elmdale Elementary School in Springdale. His sons Coleman, 7, and Carson, 6, are in first grade and pre-kindergarten, respectively. The Ramey's also have a 9-month-old daughter, Harper.
