The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The Pea Ridge Belltower Committee last week presented a check for $191.40 to the Pea Ridge Schools for construction of a walk to be built at the belltower site. The five-foot-wide walk will lead from the main walk-in entrance to the street side of the belltower. Since the belltower project was agreed on earlier this year a total of $1,251.04 has been given by the public toward the project.

The Pea Ridge senior Blackhawks upset Gentry at Gentry Friday night 12-0. The victory was only the Hawk's third in 23 years over Gentry. All the Hawks' points came in the second quarter. Quarterback Joey Almond scored first on a 6-yard keeper capping a drive that took 13 plays to complete. Josh Ramsey scored the second touchdown for the Hawks with 2:34 left in the half. Daniel Ramsey carried the ball 21 times for 87 yards, Josh Ramsey eight for 42, Jimmy Burton seven for 39, Joey Almond 10 for 35, Jimmy Small one for 5 and Brock Caudill two for 1. The Hawks dominated Gentry offensively, rushing 51 times for 209 yards to Gentry's 35 for 60.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Last Feb. 2, Kay Hufford of Gateway, supervisor dispatcher for 911 in Benton County, received an emergency call from the Hardisons of Bella Vista. Before emergency technicians could get to the Hardison home, Hufford had "talked them through" the birth of their son, Dallas Wayne Hardison. This ordeal brought Kay and the Hardisons much publicity, including local television coverage, but little did Hufford know that eventually it would result in national attention. The Maury Povich Show in New York City got in touch with Hufford. They had a copy of the Hufford/Hardison 911 call, they were doing a show about babies being born in emergency situations, the Hardisons were coming to New York to be on the show and would Hufford come and surprise them on the show.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Proving there is more than one way to skin a cat, the 'Hawks "skinned" the Prairie Grove Tigers as Dustin Hickman punched through a field goal in the final seconds of the 1AAA season finale to shock the recently crowned conference champions 27-24.

Pea Ridge never trailed as they took leads and were subsequently tied by the hometown Tigers until the last minute heroics. The victory went a long way to put some starch in the 'Hawks' drive to open the playoffs this week with a win Friday at Osceola.
