Summer food program feeds youth

From Staff Reports

With summer right around the corner, it's time to think about keeping children healthy while school is out.

Pea Ridge School District provides free meals to children during the summer.

Beginning June 1, lunch will be served at Pea Ridge High School from 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. There are no income requirements or registration. Any child under age 18 may eat.

We will continue the program through July 24. For information, contact Keith Martin at (479)451-1819 email: [email protected].

Pea Ridge School District will also provide transportation from scheduled pick-up and drop-off locations.

More than 47 percent of children in Pea Ridge School District receive free or reduced-price meals during the school year, but many of these children do not get enough to eat when school is out.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) ensures that low-income children continue to grow and learn during the summer.

Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like Pea Ridge School District to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer.
