There were 130 students registered for the Special Partnership Track and Field Day held Friday at Pea Ridge Blackhawk Stadium, according to Sue Stacey, special education director. There were teams from the Arts Academy (Bentonville), Decatur, Gentry, Gravette, Siloam Springs and Pea Ridge involved in the day-long event.
Bright Futures Pea Ridge provided food and drink for the students, teachers and volunteers.
Pea Ridge students volunteered their time, assisting students with disabilities, keeping time, manning the stations, providing games and diversion inside the multi-purpose facility and doing whatever they were asked.
"This is a great opportunity to give students love and hope," Jon Laffoon, PRHS principal said.
Part of the philosophy of Bright Futures is to not only give, but teach students to give back to their community. Many of the students donned bright yellow shirts emblazoned with "Pea Ridge Blackhawks; Pea Ridge Bright Futures; connections for success."
"It's been a great day," Stacey said, after handing out medals to students who won in their divisions.
Medals were presented by Miss Pea Ridge -- Abbye Coan, a PRHS senior.
