Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Officials of Continental Telephone Company of Arkansas have announced plans for a new central office in Pea Ridge. Plans call for a new building to be built on a site south of the present building. New switching equipment is scheduled to be placed in service in June 1976.

A fire at the Ray Burkett home on Twelve Corners Road was first reported shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday by a passerby who notified a neighbor when he failed to find the Burkett family at home. Pea Ridge firemen fought the stubborn blaze hard. Finally the fire was thought to be out. At 9 a.m. Sunday, though, firemen were again summoned to the house. That time, they stayed with it until they thought it was "stone out," but at 4 p.m. that afternoon the fire again caught hold, and that time the structure was levelled by the blaze.

Approximately 25 CBs are donating their skill, expertise and time to improve the school facilities. They did some of the inside painting in the new cafetorium and are building an office in the typing building. The exterior of the agriculture building is being painted.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Garfield City Council members approved a resolution by telephone vote Thursday night to funnel a grant from the city to the new community room that is being added to the new Northeast Benton County Volunteer Fire Department fire station.

The younger students get role models and the older students get to be role models. When Crossroads students tutor at Garfield Elementary School, everyone benefits. Crissie Doyle takes her morning class to Garfield once a week. It's usually about 15 kids and, because she has a CDL license, she can drive them herself in one of the district's school buses. Once they arrive, they high school students spread out and help where needed.
