Student expelled

In a brief special School Board meeting Monday night, Pea Ridge School Board members voted to expel a 16-year-old male student after hearing evidence from assistant principal Chip Greenwell and a recommendation from superintendent Rick Neal.

Greenwell said that the student had been absent 20 of the previous 48 days for two different 10-day suspensions following infractions including student battery, felony terroristic threatening, major disruption of classroom and threatening a student.

The student's mother represented him during the open hearing and apologized to the board for her son's misbehavior.

"Next year, the door will always be open," Neal said.
