New books ready for check out

After my eight-week hiatus I will be returning to work soon. My spinal fusion surgery went well and I have been released for "light-duty" part-time work. Six weeks of twice weekly physical therapy sessions is now in my future. Being almost pain free is wonderful.

I am deeply grateful to the library staff and board members for taking over during my absence and keeping things running smoothly. Unfortunately, I missed all of the Summer Reading program but I was pleased to learn that we had good participation and a large turnout for the party on July 11. Congratulations to all who participated.

Library hours

1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday

10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Congratulations are also in order for the pageant winners in the recent Battle Days Contest and to the PRHS Alumni Association Scholarship winners. We are very proud of all of you.

Two of our young patrons stopped by the library this past week to make a donation. The Luedtke children had set up a lemonade stand in front of Neighborhood Market and donated the $40 they earned to the library. I was moved to tears when I was told. Thank you, Logan and Katelyn.

Cinda Wooldridge and I ventured out this past week to a used book sale at the Rogers Wellness Center where we purchased 20 large print books. We then stopped at Barnes and Noble and picked up some new releases. Harper Lee's much anticipated new book "Go Set a Watchman" is one of our new titles. James Patterson's "14th Deadly Sin," Stuart Woods' "Naked Greed," "The English Spy" by Daniel Silvia and "Nemesis," No. 19 in Catherine Coulter's FBI series are some of the other new releases available for check-out. While you may only check out one new release at a time, we are always happy to add your name to the reserve list.

I believe we have at least one display space available in August if your club or civic group would like to use it to showcase your activities. Stop in and speak with us about it.

I would like say thank you to everyone for their prayers and get well wishes. It means very much to me. I am also appreciative of all the flowers, casseroles, desserts, fresh fruit and veggies that were delivered to our kitchen. Your kindness means more than I have words to express.

Looking forward to seeing you soon at the library!
