National Honor Society cleans roadways

Special to The TIMES

Pea Ridge High School National Honors Society has been working hard this summer providing community service for many different types of groups. These include the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Summer Lunch Program and cleaning the roadway along Arkansas Highway 94 (West Pickens Road) on June 12. The students cleaned up the stretch of highway in front of the high school from Standing Oaks to the Hardware store.

"I could not ask for a better group of students. They are amazing to work with and are always excited to provide community service," Roxanne Enix, sponsor, said.

In order to be a member of NHS, a student must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and complete 20 hours of community service per year. This will give them the coveted, and bragging rights, honors of graduating with NHS distinction upon graduation. Several of these students have already completed their 20 hours, and they only started working toward them on June 1 of this year. Other service that PRHS NHS will be doing this year is working at the Bright Futures Storehouse, United Way Stuff a Bus at Rogers Walmart, Bright Futures Stuff a Bus at Neighborhood Market in Pea Ridge, Freedom Fest collecting school supplies for Bright Futures, the Back-to-School Bash, and they will continue to provide support for the Summer Lunch Program for the district.
