Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

A bobcat was trapped on Nov. 25 by Jack Spencer of Garfield behind the Johnnie Richardson farm on Hoot Owl Hollow.

A beautiful sight to many last Wednesday was the approximately five inches of snow that blanketed the area on the day before Thanksgiving, and it looked particularly good to those who had a good supply of heating wood in for their fireplaces or stoves. While the wet snow was slushy underfoot as it fell, the temperature began dropping by early afternoon and, according to Pea Ridge weather observer Frank Price, hit a low of 11 degrees within a few hours. This was the first snow to accumulate in the Arkansas Ozarks this fall.

The senior basketball Blackhawks traveled to Winslow Tuesday, Nov. 25, and chalked up their first victory. The final score was 71-40. Randy Prophet led his team with 17 points. Steve Keller was close behind contributing 11. Eddie Smith put four through the hoop for 8 points and Merle Morgan, Chris Keys and Larry Barnett each had 6.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The loading area at the rear of Pea Ridge Post Office and Easley's store nears completion, though weather has held up the job some, according to Postmaster Stanley Buttry. The concrete slab was poured recently, and the posts and roof will be finished possibly next week. The covered area will be helpful for mail carriers and delivery trucks.

Pea Ridge School Board set a time record when they met last Monday night, took care of business and adjourned in less than 10 minutes. Pres. Ron Foster presided at the record-setting meeting.

Six Blackhawk senior football players were named to the 1-A West All Conference first team last week. Making the first team were center Jimmy Cotton, guard Tom Bridges, backs Daniel Ramsey and Joey Almond, defensive back Stanley Foster and line backer Steve Hicks. Blackhawk Coach Bill Almond was chosen All-Star coach and is a nominee to coach in the 1986 high school All-Star football game in Little Rock next summer.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Construction has begun on an 11,000-square-foot grocery store in Garfield. A Bentonville development company, MPG Enterprises, is building the store and will own it. Al McKenzie, an engineer with MPG, said the store will be named Country Market Place.

The first Pea Ridge Christmas Parade was a rousing success. There was just about everything a parade could need. Among the units were Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, churches, the band, floats, children and antique cars, dozers, fire trucks, the ambulance, wreckers, four carloads of OakRidge Retirement Lodge residents and, of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Mike Hathorn of Springdale won first place trophy at the George Barber Sporting Clay Range. Mike is the son of Terry and Cindy Hathorn of Springdale and the grandson of Arlous and Sue Dalton of Washburn. Mike has been taught to shoot by his grandpa Dalton and Donnie Webb.
