The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Benton County's Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Xollie Duncan clears Little Clock Council of FOI charges. The prosecuting attorney's office laid to rest the complaints registered by former alderman Jerry Putman and former city marshal Tom Noblitt that the council had violated the FOI act by going into an executive session Feb. 11. At the same time, they charged the council with violating the state law on March 11 by abolishing the position of the city marshal, noting that the law requires second class cities to have a city marshal.

Gateway City Treasurer Elsie Galyen reported Thursday that the state auditor found the city's books in perfect order, and commended her and other city officers for their meticulous record-keeping according to state requirements for municipalities.

It's amazing what 16 volunteers can do in two short weeks. That's how long the Nailbenders for Jesus will have spent raising the new Twelve Corners Baptist Church building when they bid farewell this Saturday. Church members will finish the interior, including painting, installing doors and floor covering. The total cost of the church is estimated to be $100,000. Rick Booyer is pastor.

High winds Thursday night took down a row of trees in Joe Lasater's back yard on Arkansas Highway 72 East. Wind damage was also reported west of town on Halleck Lane and Ryan Road.

With the exception of church services and ball games, the Pea Ridge Planning Commission meetings are beginning to be the biggest gathering in town each month. Approximately 40 people attended the commission's April 5 meeting to keep track of all the development making its way to this small town.
