Chad's Beverage seeks one-day opening

A liquor store originally proposed for 139 N. Curtis Ave. will be moved outside the city limits, if the owner's plans are accepted by the Pea Ridge Planning Commission at its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7. Chad Smith of Bella Vista received a state permit last summer for a liquor store in that location.

Smith's request for a conditional use for a temporary building and for liquor sales is on the agenda to be presented to city officials at the regular Planning Commission meeting which will begin with a public hearing.

In a letter dated Aug. 18, Smith wrote that the type of business is a "Temporary one-day opening of Chad's Beverage Shop at the north corner of 139 N. Curtis Ave. -- a liquor store that once open will close within 24 hours to be transferred out of the city limits of Pea Ridge; no additional traffic will be generated."

Smith's letter stated the building would be 8-feet by 12-feet and would have a 4- by 4-feet sign on it stating "Chads Beverage Shop."

Smith, said he did originally plan to open the business in Pea Ridge. He said that from the state requirements, the location was one of the few in town that wasn't too close to a school or church.

"I just feel like it's in the best interest of the business" to move outside the city, Smith said Tuesday.
