Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Finis Wood, the first mayor of Pea Ridge, delivered a his 100th angel food cake to Wilson Webb. Mr. Wood had been giving away his cakes to people within the Pea Ridge community for several months because he wanted to honor his late wife, who was known as the best angel food cake baker around.

The new FHA officers were announced and included Yvonna Shrader, president; Brenda Lasater, first vice-president; Tammy Bouck, second vice-president; and Diana Collins, third vice-president.

Carol Creekmore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arvel Creekmore of Pea Ridge, was the recipient of two scholarships presented to her at the Rogers High School assembly.

The top 10 percent of the senior class was recognized at the Pea Ridge School award ceremony and included Deena Jump, Danny Prophet, Kim Hileman, Brenda Webb and Kelly Stokes.

The Volunteer Ambulance Service's first call was to help a man who collapsed in a boat while fishing in Beaver Lake at Lost Bridge. Responders Jack Clark, Jim McBride, Duane Fischgrabe, Larry and Ethel McCabe made it to scene with McBride driving the ambulance. That same night, they received a second call for an accident on U.S. Hwy. 62.

Governor Bill Clinton gave the commencement address to Pea Ridge High School graduates during their graduation ceremony.

Monica Guerra was an exchange student who was staying with the David Peterson family in Pea Ridge. When she arrived, she didn't speak any English but learned by auditing Spanish class.

Doug Blevins, son of Doug Blevins of Pea Ridge, was named a University of Arkansas drum major. He was set to begin his senior year and by the end of it hope to have his teaching certificate to be a high school band director.

The Pea Ridge baseball team finished second in the state 1-A playoffs. They finished with a 24-6 record. Players included Matt Shaner, Dwayne Fletcher, Mike Burton, Josh Snow, Justin Brown, Michael Huston, statistician Chris Balster, Alan Huston, Alan Spivey, Rodney Long, Wes Mabry, Joey Evans, Matt Easterling, Colemen Strahan, Ryan Harp and Rob Johnson. The coaches were John King and Wayne Wood.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Lisa Crowder, mother of 4-year-old cancer survivor Lindsey Crowder, and her Relay for Life teammates from Twelve Corners Baptist Church hosted a Concert at the Pea Ridge City Park. The event raised $8,000, which brought their team total to $11,000. The event honored Lindsey and 11 other cancer survivors.

The first-grade winners in The TIMES Stamp Out Smoking coloring contest were Morgen Pack, Kameron Jennings, Tonya Bradshaw, Rilee Patrick, Hunter Loy, Tyler Harris, Abbye Coan, Shelby Weaver and Taylor Winn.

Benton County election results were published and included County Judge Gary Black topping Leo Lynch in the county judge race.
