Little 'Hawks Basketball Camp was Wednesday through Friday last week hosted by coach Trent Loyd and the Pea Ridge Blackhawks. More than 70 students from third through sixth grade participated. Varsity Blackhawks coached the youth. Campers of the week were selected based on their attitude, effort and coach-ability. Campers of the week were James Jordan for the third- and fourth-grades and Kamree Dye, fifth- and sixth-grade.

"This is for the kids to have fun and learn basketball fundamentals," coach Trent Loyd said. "It is a good community builder. It helps our kids (high school basketball players) learn what role models they are for the younger kids."

"It's just as much fun for the high school kids as for the campers," Loyd said, adding that a parent told him about her child coming home from camp excited about it and saying how "cool" and "awesome" the high school players and her coach were.

"They learned what an impact they have on the youth," Loyd said.

The camp culminated with an awards program Friday at noon.
