Story Hour grows during summer

It was good to get back to work after being away for a week. I sure hated to see The TIMES office close here, but certainly happy that we will still have the newspaper. We get so much local news form the newspaper that we would probably not get otherwise.

Tuesday, I received a very nice note from Mrs. Marcia Moore's second-grade class thanking the library for partnering with the second-grade classes for the reading contest earlier this year. We were happy to work with them and hope we can work with the Primary School again.

Donna Beaver and I attended the open house event at the Pea Ridge Manufacturing and Business Academy on Thursday. What a wonderful educational opportunity that is for our high school students.

The Pea Ridge Lions Club is the local organization featured at the library this month. Please stop by to learn more about this local civic group. Are you aware that The Lions have become the leading international organization working for the prevention and cure of blindness? They also promote diabetes education research and service to the community.

Members will soon be selling tickets for the fourth annual Race for Sight Lawnmower races to be held July 26, 2014. The Lions meet the second and fourth Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the Heritage Building on the school campus at Pike Street and North Curtis Avenue. If interested in joining this organization, call 479-621-1621. Used eye glasses are collected by the Lions and a collection box is located inside the library.

Eighteen children attended the Story and Craft Hour last week. Now that school is out, we are planning for a large group each week.

"A Fair to Die For" by Radine Trees Nehring has been donated to the library. Ms. Nehring has been writing about the people, places, events and natural world near her home here in Arkansas. War Eagle area is featured in this mystery.

Three new large print books are available: "Betrayal" by Fern Michaels, "The Witness" by Nora Roberts and "Murder, She Wrote: The Fine Art of Murder" by Jessica Fletcher. Other new additions are "Unlucky 12" by James Paterson, "Field of Prey" by John Sanford, "Cheap Shot" by Robert B. Parker; "Don't Look Behind You and Other True Cases" by Ann Rule and "Tuesday's Child" by Fern Michaels.

See you at the library!
