Sophomore students named to the Honor Roll for the fall semester at Pea Ridge High School were Mary Ann Arnold, Terry Hurd, Brenda Lasater and Beverly Thomas.

The winners of the Boy Scout pinewood derby were Tommy Camp, Kevin Bray and Alan Fletcher.

The first customer served by Norman Allen, manager of the Mobil Gas Station which opened at the Old Mill at Arkansas Highways 94 and 72, was his father, L.A. Allen, of Goodman, Mo.

The VIPs for this week at Pea Ridge Elementary School were Jerry Roland, Donny Benninger, Zack Patton, Stacy Paulsen, Sharon Goates, Beth Young Blood, Shawnda Gabbard, Mike Williams, Sarah Bovara, Brett Stayton, Sabrina Underwood, Kelly Light, Tammy Kirk and Christy Scism.

The Pea Ridge senior girls beat Winslow 40-30; the Blackhawk senior boys lost 59-46.

Twelve fires were fought by the Avoca, Little Flock, Pea Ridge and NEBCO volunteer firemen in one week. The Pea Ridge Fire Department responded to six fires. The fires were investigated as arson.

Bill Patton, an employee of the Pea Ridge School District, announced that he would be a Republican candidate for the office of Benton County judge.

Former Benton County Deputy Doug Carson was sworn in as Pea Ridge city marshal.

More than 106 parents, students, faculty members and friends of the coaches at Pea Ridge High School showed up to surprise the coaches with a "coaches appreciation" coffee session.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Firefighters used 150,000 gallons of water to put out the fire at Brightwater United Methodist Church. The church was a total loss. The cold weather caused all the water not directly hitting the flames to turn into thick ice. The firefighters were covered in ice. The fire was said to be started in the second-story furnace.

The Blackhawk salute of the week was given to Nathan Musteen, who was playing good defense and scoring when needed, coach Larry Walker said.

The star students at Pea Ridge Elementary School for January were Jesse Graham, Logan Fitzner, Lacey Dorris, Alex Kelly, T.J. Liddell, Joseph Gifford, Shea Speer, Kyle Oliver, Duane Fletcher, Jacob Fowler, Sean Shrader and Dustin Stroud.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Three inches of snow caused schools to close on Monday, Feb. 9. The temperatures reached the upper 40s during the day. causing most of the snow to be gone by nightfall.

The Blackhawk senior boys beat Johnson County Westside 77-56.

Jorge Keene, Cody Woodward and Ryan Barnett were named to KURM Radio's 24th annual Dream Team. Keene was also named all-state and would play in the All-Star game that summer.
