Many 'firsts' in 2014

As the year comes to a close, a look at the headlines for the year is a reminder of some of the events of 2014. It was an election year, but there was no contested race in Pea Ridge, although there were in Garfield and Gateway.

Pea Ridge Ambulance was upgraded to an advanced life support ambulance and now has employees on staff 24 hours a day seven days a week. The license went was applied April 1, according to Fire Chief Jamie Baggett.

Pea Ridge Manufacturing and Business Academy opened its doors with the beginning of the school year in August 2014. It was the first conversion charter school approved by the Arkansas Department of Education. Then gubernatorial candidate (elected governor in November) Asa Hutchinson toured the campus in September.

A new business opened in town with the Walmart Neighborhood Market opening its doors Wednesday, July 16.
