Long lost books returned

I spent some time at garage sales this weekend looking for books and DVDs and anything else that might be used in the library. I found several books and a sweet little wooden chair for the children's area.

The most amazing thing occurred on Saturday morning! The sister of a previous patron returned four books that had been checked out in 1992! An accompanying note explained that the books were found among the possessions of a lady who passed away in 1993. Where they have been all these years was not explained. Really happy that one of the books was about Laura Ingalls Wilder. I will be sending a note to the person who took the time to return them. It is ironic that these showed up at a time when we are trying very hard to get local patrons to return books and pay their fines that have accumulated. Some are overdue by a week and in some cases by a year or more. While we hate to resort to involving law enforcement in an attempt to get the books returned and fines paid, the fact is that failure to return library materials is theft.

We want to thank the Historical Society for the items that have been on display during the month of April. The Optimist Club will be in charge of the display area for the month of May. It is nice to have the local organizations/groups participate in this undertaking. This is such a good way to let people in the community learn more about their good works.

Thursday evening will find us participating at the Parent Fair at the Primary School. Cinda and I are looking forward to meeting parents and children and answering questions about the library. We would love to be able to get many more families signed up so more children could participate in the Summer Reading Program.

The library book sale is still planned for next Saturday on the library parking lot. In case of inclement weather, the sale will have to be rescheduled. We have fiction, non-fiction, hardback, paperback, children's books and magazines. Our prices are always reasonable. Buy a box of books and we will carry them to your car.

As I write this, threatening weather is in the forecast. I love spring but I don't like the storms/tornadoes that is part of it. Praying that everyone will be safe.

See you at the library!
