Lady 'Hawks roll to victory in Siloam

The Pea Ridge Lady 'Hawk track squad rolled on to yet another team championship, more than doubling up the field to take the small school divisional crown in the Siloam Springs Invitational last week.

After edging their cross county foe Gravette in a close battle in Gentry last week, this time around saw the 'Hawks run away with the title by posting a lopsided 190-90 victory for the division championship. Bentonville was the victor among the large schools present in Panther Stadium.

Pea Ridge won with 190 followed by Gravette with 90; Elkins, 73; Prairie Grove, 53; Gentry, 52; Decatur, 28; Locust Grove, 13; Shiloh, 10; Oaks, 1; and Farmington, 0. The 'Hawks piled up 85 points in the field events to take a staggering 85-36 lead over the Lady Lions entering the running events, an advantage that Pea Ridge continued to add to as the meet progressed.

Junior Mikhaela Cochran won her fourth high point trophy of the season, scoring 48 to lead all scorers. The 11th-grader won the discus (91'2"), long jump (14'8"), high jump (5'2"), and 100 hurdles (18.46) and also finished second in the shot put (27'1"). Cochran won despite having to scratch her last running running, the 300 hurdles, due to a minor injury.

Junior Emma Pitts also had a stellar meet, scoring 36 individual points by taking four second-place finishes in the 100 (13.84), 200 (29.31), 400 (69.16) and long jump (14'3) as well as a seventh place in the discus (73'3"). Sophomore Ashtyn Mondy was the winner of the 200 (29.17) and also captured second places in the 100 (13.88) and the triple jump (30'0") events for 31 individual points. Pitts and Mondy were both on winning relay teams as well.

The other individual winners for the 'Hawks were Vanessa Wing in the 400 who was the winner in 64.75 and Liz McGowan who won the shot put. McGowan tossed the shot 27'6" and was also the third-place finisher in the discus (80'9"). Wing also was third in the high jump (4'4") and seventh in the long jump (12'7").

Also scoring was Casi Caton, fifth in the 1,600 (6:54.51), and Savannah Cypert, third in the high jump (4'4") and fifth in the triple jump (27'10"). Rounding out the scoring for Pea Ridge was the distance running duo of Lexi Bradrick and Kelsie Merritt. Bradrick took third in the 3,200 in 14:25 with Merritt finishing fourth in 15:11. Bradrick was also a seventh place finisher in the triple jump (25'11").

The 'Hawks had the best relay team in all three small school races. The 4x100-team (Gloria Vargas, Wing, Pitts, Mondy) won in 55.30 with the 4x400 (Mondy, Wing, Vargas, Caton) taking first in 4:46.4 while the 4x800 (Vargas, Caton, Bradrick, Wing) won their race in 11:32.1.

Logan Rose jumps to points

Senior Logan Rose jumped to places in three events as he led the Blackhawks in the Siloam Springs Panther Invitational last week.

Rose took third in the triple jump (38'7") to go with fourth places in the high jump (5'8") and long jump (18'0") to score 16 individual points. The veteran trackster has led the team in scoring in every meet this season.

Other scorers included: Ryan Jackson, seventh, 200 (25.3); Dylan Luker, sixth, 400 (56.89); Levi Brown, eighth, 800 (2:30.7); Jesse Undernehr, sixth, 110 hurdles (19.07) and seventh, 300 hurdles (47.09); Nick Mooneyhan, eighth, long jump (17'2"); and Dakota Winn, seventh, triple jump (36'5")

The 4x800-relay team of Levi Brown, Dylan Luker, Cody Fultz and Mark Wilson scored 10 points by winning the small school race in 9:55.

The final team scores were: Elkins, 173; Farmington, 128; Gravette, 100; Prairie Grove, 63; Locust Grove, 50' Pea Ridge, 38; Decatur, 28; Gentry, 21; and Oaks, 8.
