Build it and they will come

Our anniversary celebration last week started off very slowly and then picked up considerably in the afternoon. So many people stopped in to congratulate us on a great year and wish us many more.

For the past few weeks there has been a young man using the Quiet Room to study for a test. Thursday afternoon he stopped by to let us know that he aced his test and will be leaving soon to study at a college outside the U.S. We are so happy for him and wish him the very best.

A tutor from the Literacy Council made use of the quiet room two days last week and has reserved time slots twice a week for some time to come. Other groups have expressed an interest in holding meetings at the library. I guess that old adage is true "build it and they will come." We could not be more pleased!

We just received a large shipment of new children's books. With the Summer Reading Program set for July, these books are sure to be a hit.

Someone has contacted library personnel in need of June and July issues of magazines to use for a class project. In particular, they are looking for anything dealing with the Fourth of July, fireworks, etc. If you have any, please drop them off at the library.

I stopped by the Presbyterian Women's garage sale on Saturday and was very fortunate to find a large number of DVDs that I purchased for the library.

Kristi Towe, who served as our board chair during the remodeling and move into our new location, ended her term at the end of 2013. This past weekend she and her daughter, Sarah, moved to Rogers. The members of the Library Board and I want to express our sincere appreciation for all of her hard work. She put in countless hours getting our Library Express program up and running. We wish her the very best in her new home and we will miss her.

Take a break from your yard work/gardening to visit the library!
