Theft of checks reported

Police are investigating a theft involving three business checks stolen from CVT Towing, Pea Ridge. The business owner, Vickie Hilburn Slaughter, told police she received a call from an automobile dealership that the check written from her business to purchase avehicle had been returned for insu◊cient funds.

Upon investigating, it was discovered that three checks from her business account were missing, according to the police report.

An employee was reported to have written three checks - for $46,122, $36,127 and$54,100 - to two di◊erent dealerships, one in Bentonville and one in Oklahoma, to purchase three vehicles, according to the report.

The man, Robert Nelson, 43, left one of the vehicles on Slaughter’s lot telling her he bought it for “business,” but he had not returned for it and shewas unable to contact him, according to police. That vehicle has been picked up by a representative of the dealership.

Nelson was reportedly living with a woman on Patterson Road in Pea Ridge.

Bentonville police are also investigating the theft of the vehicles.
