Bomb threat defused

A bomb threat Friday afternoon emptied Pea Ridge Middle School. No bombs were found.

Police were called to the scene about 1:30 p.m. after a note was found in the bathroom stating that a bomb was set to go off at 11:00, according to Rick Neal, school superintendent.

“We had a possible situation at the Middle School,” Police Chief Tim Ledbetter said. “The school evacuated ... we searched and found nothing.”

“We evacuated the building and followed our crisis plan by contacting our school resource officer and local law enforcement,” Neal said.

“The students returned to class after the building was released back to the district. The faculty and staff did a great ensuring the children’s safety,” Neal said.
