The new school gym and additional classrooms in Pea Ridge moved closer to reality when the architect, Perry L. Butcher of Rogers, presented nearly-final plans for the School Board and administration.

Frank Strode, owner of the Pea Ridge Canning Co., said that the cannery would be in full operation again, buying all the local tomatoes available.

The main topics discussed at the Pea Ridge City Council meeting were a requested hike in salary for Water-Street supterintendent Charles Hardy and a request for equal pay matching the city’s other policeman by night policeman Lloyd Pifer.

Jerry Morrison was elected president of the newly organized Pea Ridge Riding Club. Other officers elected included: Allan Gastineau, vice president; Babe Du-Bois, secretary; Nila James, treasurer; and Lloyd Miller, trail boss.

“It’s not the responsibility of the county,” emphatically stated County Judge A.E. Norwood when he talked about the results of his investigation into complaints about littering the roadside along Ryan Road in Pea Ridge.

Cheryl Spehar and Diane Fieland, both of Pea Ridge, were part of Fayetteville ladies’ tennis team which won the state amateur championship.

Joyce Hale and Jim Cheek were the recipients of Alpha Nu Sorority’s Diana and Zeus awards, given each year in recognitionof outstanding community service.

Loyd and Ola Miller celebrated their 50 year wedding anniversary at a reception at United Methodist Church, Pea Ridge.

Ordination was held at Twelve Corners Baptist Church for Eldon Long, pastor, and Sherrel Dodd and Clint Schooley, deacons.

Sharon Goates was the 1993 valedictorian of the Pea Ridge High School graduating class. Salutatorian was Jennifer Jones.

Beverly Toepfer replaced Gert VanLent as the PeaRidge School nurse.

Site preparation started for the new half million dollar Pea Ridge fire hall on South Curtis Avenue.

Straight-line winds reaching 80 to 90 mph, according to the National Weather Service, tore across Pea Ridge, ripping trees from the ground by their roots, snapping power poles and wreaking havoc with fences, homes and power lines as tree limbs broke free and fell.

To cut expenses, the Pea Ridge School District officials discussed eliminating several aide positions andraise the teacher-student ratio.

A painting by Erin Duvall, a fifth-grader at Pea Ridge Middle School, won both the district and state competitions in a First Baptist Church art competition.

Representing Pea Ridge in the AA State Track and Field Meet were Haley Bone, who placed seventh in long jump, and Tyler Thetford, who placed eighth in pole vault.
