’Til Next Time: Finding humor in common things

While reading a humorous article written by a lady helping with the Mayflower oil spill clean up, I was enjoying every bit of the humor until she started relating that she disapproved of everything, including the snakes. I suddenly had a vision of me holding a snake by its throat while I tried to clean the rest of it. I knew it wasn’t going to just hang there limp. I had to lay the article aside to avoid nightmares.

A week ago, the apple tree was in full bloom and when we walked under it we could hear the tree buzzing.

It was full of bees. I’m so thankful for someone raising bees. I’m sure the frost got the blossoms, though.

When a man pulled in the driveway I stepped out to say, “He doesn’t bite.” The man replied, when people say that, what they really mean is that the dog doesn’t bite them!

When someone asks me “How are you?” do they really want to hear about the hip or the sore thumb?

When I answer, “I’m good!” am I lying? No, it means I’m good for my age and the shape I’m in, but thanks for asking.

I got a chuckle as I passed a shop named “A Little Bit Used.” After spending the morning on my hands and knees pulling weeds at the Wellness Center, I was feeling exactly that way. But home, a bit of dinner and a warmed up cup of morning coffee in the recliner, all ills are healed.

Mother’s Day services at Brightwater United Memorial Church were different this year. The U.M.W.

conducted the services from the time they greeted at the door until the benediction was over and did a good job of it. Wanda Bennett is president of the U.M.W. Pam Cicloni was the speaker.

I was glad to see Wanda Roe in the store, but couldn’t catch up with her.

When Patty Wagner wished me a good Mother’s Day, I had to repeat it to her more than once. She has more than I do and is rightfully proud of every one of them.

We have several people feeling puny, but not real sick. Sue Lynch has an inner ear problem that keeps her in the house a lot. Dorothy Lynch is flirting with pneumonia. J.C. Carter hasn’t decided yet if he’s sick - he’ll let somebody knows when he does.

We were all saddened to hear that Bill Houseworth had another stroke after returning to Texas and has since passed away.

If you’ve been praying for rain, you might want to let up a little bit!
