Library Notes: Won’t be long now until move

March is here and moving day is getting closer! The members of the Library Board have contacted a moving company in regard to the big move. They have told us they can move books and shelves in four hours. I certainly hope we can afford to have them move us. They are experienced in library moves and they have the manpower and equipment to handle it.

Our book shelves are extremely heavy and not easy to move. Not to mention there will only be six inches between the top of the book shelves and the ceiling.

There are still a lot of “little” things to get taken care of before the move.

The computer system is now in place to allow us to purchase the computerprogram, scanners, label printer, etc. for the new library check-in/check-out system.

An order has been placed for book display units that will hold books with front covers facing out so the children can more easily locate a book.

A really colorful rug is on order for the children’s area. I will be ordering some new children’s books - all this with a donation from the Pea Ridge Optimist Club. Their generous gift is much appreciated.

The Pea Ridge Lions Club will continue with the landscaping as soon asa decision is made regarding how we will finish the outside of the building - brick or siding. Thank you Lions Club for being patient with us.

We ask for patience as we continue to purge books from the shelves.

Children and adult fiction books that have not been checked out in the past five years or longer will be removed and held for a book sale at a later date.

The board members would like to have a privacy fence installed around the back of the library property. This would enable us to have story hours, summer reading program party, etc. outside in good weather. Chairs/ benches and tables would make it a nice quiet place to sit and read or visit.

I can’t remember ifI have mentioned this before but books will be shelved in alphabetical order for the author’s last name in the new building.

Many of you have asked for this change to make it easier to find your favorite writer. There will be some adjustments for all of us in the new building - just hope I am not too old to learn.

See you at the library!
