Library Notes: Donations abound for library

Most weeks at the library are really good; however, this past week was exceptionally good! Thursday morning at 7 I met with members of the Optimist Club at the new library building. When the people you are meeting with arrive early with a coffee pot and doughnuts you know things are starting off on the right foot. I knew in advance that they wanted to do something that would benefit the children but I had no idea they would make such a generous monetary gift! The members of the Library Board and I thank them very much. We will be able to add some things to the children’s area that we probably could not have otherwise done. I know the children will be delighted.

The library had received a sizeable donation of large print books, many of which were duplicates. We were able to pass the duplicates on to Autumn Place. I am looking forward to greeting some of the residents at thelibrary in February.

Now that we are so close to a move-in date we are on the hunt for seven chairs with rollers for the public use computer stations. If you know of a good deal on this type of chair, please contact me at 451-8442.

The collection box for Labels for Education and Box Tops for Education for the Pea Ridge Schools is still in the library. Check your cereal boxes, cake mix boxes, soup cans, etc.; cut them off and bring them by the library. I know school officials will be appreciative.

The library received a large number of paperback Westerns and we hope to have them on the shelves shortly. The library donated a large box of paperbacks to the Benton County Sheriff’sOffice. I hope we can continue to make donations to the BCSO in appreciation for all the work done by the inmates.

A number of the books I ordered last week have arrived. We have received seven Daisy Meadows the Dance Fairies books and I hope to order more soon.

Several back issue of The Food Network magazine have been donated recently as well as current issues of Good Housekeeping, Woman’s Day, Family Circle, etc.

I could not write a column without an up-date on the new location. The computer area is almost ready.

Carpet will soon be laid in the main area and the fixtures will soon be installed in the restrooms.

I don’t remember if I have mentioned that we will need to replace the siding on the building. I am hopeful that can be done before move-in - it just depends on the cost. I am just so thankful that we have been able to renovate thatbuilding on such a small scale. That would not have been possible without the help of this community. We appreciate everyone who has helped in any way - from the folks who pulled nails and moved cabinets, etc., to the contractors who donated time and materials, to everyone who donated books and/or attended our book sales; and to those who have donated money.

It makes me happy to have people stop me and tell me that this new library is just what Pea Ridge needs! I think it is what you deserve.

See you at the library!
