Library Notes: A week in the life of a librarian

— When I couldn’t think of anything really interesting to write about I decided to give you a brief synopsis of the past week to give you an idea of what a small town librarian really does.

Library not open on Monday, but attended a City Council committee meeting at City Hall at 5 p.m. After the meeting ended, the mayor, members of the council and a Library Board member and I toured the new facility. I stopped back by the library to drop off some paperwork. Just added to a lot of things I had left on my desk after the book sale ended on Saturday.

Remembering 9/11 and thinking of victims and survivors.

Came in early to clean up my desk. Hadn’t made much progress by the time I opened at 4 p.m. However, did manage to get a number of returned books back on the shelves.

Had a nice visit with a lady who may be movinghere from Hawaii. We are always happy to have a new card holder.

Had a large donation of Christian fiction books this afternoon. These need to be checked to determine if we have any of these. If not, they will be processed and placed on the shelves.

Tuesday evenings are almost always busy and tonight was no exception.

Had 15 patrons and only a couple of phone calls.

Checked out 59 books.

Time to go home and desk still not cleared- will tackle it early in the morning.

Another early to work day. Not only are there donated books to process, but the clutter on the desk is growing! So glad there will be a volunteer this afternoon to help. Straightened up the children’s room before Story Hour. Onlyhad four children today so things were quiet.

A gentleman from California who has a cooking show on You Tube (Cooking With Jack) stopped in to purchase a cookbook.

Wants to use some of the recipes on his show. Hopefully he will let me know when the show will air.

Hope that show generates some cookbook sales.

Corey and the electrician are working in the new building. Stayed a little late today to make calls regarding past due books.

Patrons are getting much better about getting the books back on time. Had 25 patrons and six phone calls today. Only checked out 53 books today.

The volunteer shelved books and processed donated books. What would I do with out volunteer help!

More book and magazine donations today. The morning just flew by and it was lunch time before I realized it. The library closes in an hour - where has this day gone? Sold some books, issued a newlibrary card and processed donated books. Will be taking an armload of book catalogs home over the weekend. Made a little progress on clearing the cluttered desk. Sure looking forward to having a better work space in the new building. Had 24 patrons and six phone calls and checked out 55 books.

Always try to get all the returned books back in their proper places before I go home but that didn’t happen today. Gives me something to look forward to on Tuesday.

Drop by this week and check out some books.

Maybe we can reach a new one-day check-out total.

See you at the library!
