Carl Baggett, president of the Bank of Pea Ridge, was elected as president of the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce for 1973. Other officers elected were Tim Wood, owner of the Pea Ridge Grocery, as vice president and Eva Patterson, a part-time clerk at the local post office, as secretary.

A balance of $256 was in the “Pea Ridge Day” Municipal Park fund.

Two city groups met together and separately with representatives of the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission. Both groups - the Pea Ridge Planning Commission and the Pea Ridge Little League representing the “Pea Ridge Day” Municipal Park - had been slowed down in their plans by lack of action by the Pea Ridge city government.

Bill Clinton, Democratic candidate for governor, told Pea Ridgers he would appreciate their support for his program of more jobs, better education, better living for senior citizens. He asked for their votes. Some 50 people gathered at the Bank of Pea Ridge to meet the candidate.

Barbara Frazier temporarily took over the Avoca Post Office and Postmaster Betty Seamster replaced Gary Blackburn in Garfield during his 90-day assignment to the Mountain Home post office.

Avoca’s acting Mayor/ Recorder Diana Bowen administered the oath of office to newly-elected alderman Harley Ingram at the Avoca Town Council meeting.

Congressman John Paul Hammerschmidt made the formal dedication of the Pea Ridge sewer project.

The Pea Ridge City Council set pay for aldermen, the mayor and recorder at $25 per regularly scheduled meeting attended.

20 Years Ago Thursday, Oct. 22, 1992 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Gary Jackson of Hight & Jackson presented to the Pea Ridge School Board the finalized plans for an eight-room addition to the elementary school. The board approved the plans.

Kendal Griffiths of Garfield, daughter of Lynn and Terri Griffiths, displayed the 97-pound pumpkin shegrew. She also grew one that weighed 51 pounds.

Stephanie Goins was crowned Pea Ridge homecoming queen. She was escorted by her father, Johnny Goins.

Floyd and Hazel Walker of Pea Ridge celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

In a continuing effort to coordinate the Pea Ridge Neighborhood Crime Watch, Police Chief Art Croswell met with several interested townspeople at City Hall.

More than 45 Pea Ridge residents caught a glimpse of the city’s future at theCity Council meeting. In an open meeting, Dr. David Glasser of the University of Arkansas Community Design Center and his team of students and faculty presented preliminary findings and conclusions from their first two months of study.

For the first time since its incorporation in 1888, Garfield had a race for mayor.

Bobby Flickinger, the incumbent, and challenger Gary Eckel were vying to lead the city through, what looked to be, a difficult economic time.

Pea Ridge teacher John McGee was tabbed to serve as the executive director of the inaugural Natural State Games of Arkansas, an Olympic-style sports festival.
