Library Notes: Rain threatens book sale plans

— If I had any hope that colder weather was still far into the future, the temperatures of the past few days has dashed that thought! Don’t know about you, but I was not ready for such a drastic change. Somehow, easing into it makes it easier to take.

The long-awaited and planned for Library book sale is now in limbo. Long-range weather forecast is for 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday. My thinking now is that this pretty much rules out having a sidewalk book sale! We have a “plan B” if the weather is not too bad and that is to once again prevail upon the Camp’s kindness and move the books to their auction barn. They will have a Swap Meet on Saturday, Oct. 13, and will make room for us. My concern is moving the books in a thunderstorm.

Let’s all hope that the forecast will change for the better and the library and the Mule Jump will benefit. Check our Facebook page or call the library on Thursday for the latest info.

Work continues on the new location and I am hopeful we will have the new heat and air units installed in a few weeks.

There are many decisions to be made before insulation and dry wall are installed. City employees Tony Townsend and Cory Flowers are doing an outstanding job of keeping things going. Members of the Library Board and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts. I heard last week that they are going to have another volunteer for a couple of days a week for the next few weeks. I may have to bake some cookies or a cake!

I continue to be amazed by all the support the library receives from the community.

Each week we have people stop in to ask about obtaining a library card, to use the computer or just to “look around.” Everyone is anxious to get the library moved.

Last week I was asked how many jobs I have held in my working life and came up with a fairly low number - I took a break to raise my boys. WhileI have had some good jobs, I have to admit that being the librarian is the best job I have ever had. Not many people get to visit with the nicest folks on a day-to-day basis! I have learned so much about Pea Ridge and the surrounding area from these people.

What a fun way to learn local history!

Don’t forget that you drop off your Labels for Education and Box Tops for Education at the library. These will be turned in to the Pea Ridge School District for their use in obtaining items for the classrooms. This is such a great way to stretch their funds and we are happy to help.

See you at the library!
