LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Too much government interference

— I find it a little ironic that the Republican Party that bemoans government regulation wants to regulate two of the most personal aspects of our lives - that being marriage and abortion. Personally, I don’t believe it is the government’s business to interfere with either one. And let me set the record straight right up front, I support marriage between a man and a woman but don’t condemn those who prefer same sex marriages. That’s their business not the governments. As for abortion, I am opposed to it for convenience or birth control sake, but am not opposed to a woman choosing abortion in the case of rape, incest or severe mother-related health issues. Again, that is a person’s choice not the governments. We have a government that interferes already too much in our lives. Leave the issues of marriage and abortion up to those intimately affected.

Illegally annexed

I went to the Gateway Town meeting May 7 and this is what I heard from the town’s attorney. There are two ordinances on the books. One states that it is illegal to discharge a firearm in the town limits. The other was prohibiting the town from ever annexing any more land.

Here would be my dilemma. Coyotes are bothering my cattle. Do I use my rifle to protect my property and then have the full wrath of Town of Gateway come down on me with a $300 fine or 30 days in jail? Then have to turn around and sue the town for illegal annexation?

A word to the wise: If you own a farm or land around a town or city that provides absolutely nothing in services, except a collection basket for your tax dollars, steer clear.
