SCHOOL NEWS: UCA Presidential Scholar announced

— Felicia J. Scott, Garfield, senior, undergrad pre major program, was named to the University of Central Arkansas has announced the Presidential Scholars List for the spring 2012 semester. Students must achieve a 4.0 grade point average with a minimum course load of 12 credit hours to receive the recognition of Presidential Scholar.

Johnson graduates from Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA - Cheryl Lorraine Johnson, Garfield, was named to the Henderson State University in Arkadelphia announced students graduating from college.

SAU announced scholarships

MAGNOLIA - Southern Arkansas University of Magnolia announced scholarship awards to local students. Receiving a Blue and Gold Scholarship of $2,250 per semester, with a four-year value of $20,400 was Morgan Bowen, Garfield, a 2012 Rogers Heritage High School graduate and the daughter of Elizabeth Bowen and Greg Bowen.

Hendrix College graduates announced

CONWAY - Wyatt Blankenship, Pea Ridge, graduated cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree in biology and environmental studies, from Hendrix College in Conway.

NorthWest Arkansas Community College honors graduates

Martha Ayala, AAS, nursing, Track I; and Justin C.

Sutherlan, AAS, paramedic, both of Pea Ridge, were honored as two of 30 top graduates at NorthWest Arkansas Community College. Students werenominated by faculty, then selected by program coordinators and division deans, based on academic achievement and service.

NWACC rising scholars

BENTONVILLE - Jessica Dudley and Bethany Roughton, two Pea Ridge High School students, were among 96 students recognized by NorthWest Arkansas Community College for excelling in concurrent classes as Rising Scholars.

NWACC also recognized area high schools for their commitment to offering students concurrent enrollment opportunities and the number of students recognized as NWACC Rising Scholars. To be recognized as an Early College Experience School, 10 percent or more of the students participating in NWACC Early College Experience program must be recognized as NWACC Rising Scholars.

High Schools being recognized are: Bentonville High School, Gentry High School, Greenland High School, Pea Ridge High School, Rogers Heritage High School, Rogers High School, Shiloh Christian School and Siloam Springs High School.

Students can take NWACC classes on the NWACC campus, through the Early College Experience, high school-based concurrent enrollment program, or through NTI Secondary Career Center.

To receive the award, graduating seniors must be enrolled in or have completed at least 12 college credit hours and maintain a 3.0 or higher NWACC grade pointaverage.

NWACC has been offering concurrent enrollment opportunities to area high school students since 1995. From 2000 to 2010, NWACC has awarded 5,820 high school students 27,273 semester credit hours.
