Young artists tour Tulsa museums

— A contingent of fifth graders made the annual trek to Tulsa recently to tour the Gilcrease and Philbrook art museums.

The top grade has been going on this yearly trip since 2004 when local art teacher John McGee first organized it.

After arriving in Tulsa in the morning, the students were led on a tour of the Gilcrease Museum of American Art. Before leaving the grounds, which was once the home of oil millionaire Thomas Gilcrease, the students got to see the special “Art of Pea Ridge, Arkansas” exhibit which opened its run last week. The exhibit will run through July before closing.

The students then went on a picnic at the 41st Street Riverside Park, one of the best parks and playgrounds in Oklahoma.

The afternoon was filled with a trip to the Philbrook Museum of Art and the adjacent Philbrook Gardens as well. The day was finished with a trip to the “Incredible Pizza” restaurant and amusements company.
