— A special meeting of the Pea Ridge School Board was the first after the new superintendent, Roy A. Roe, assumed his duties.

The meeting was called in order to begin interviewing and hiring faculty members for positions that had not been filled.

Benjamin A. Stephens of Fayetteville was named Benton County School supervisor. He replaced R.E. Baker who retired.

The Light House (Youth Center) sponsored by the Garfield Baptist Church opened its doors this week to provide young people of the community a place to go for recreation.

The lucky winner in the Union Carbide-sponsored fishing contest was 5-yearold Travis Woods, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Woods of Pea Ridge.

The Pea Ridge Drug Store was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Lemoine Wright of Garfield.

The provision of ambulance service to northeast Benton County drew closer to reality. Jim Campbell reported to the board of directors of the Volunteer Ambulance Service that a dozen jackets for the attendants had been purchased and that hats and patches had been ordered, but not delivered.

The Pea Ridge District 109 Board of Education granted a five percent pay increase to all certified and non-certified personnel.

Candidates for the Pea Ridge Community Fair Queen included: Christine Sue Bloxham, Julie Ann Collins, Tammy Sue Heim, Samantha Ann Hurd and Sheila Ann O’Dell.

Eldon D. Long was named the pastor of Twelve Corners Baptist Church.

Marine Pvt. Timothy S. Hewett, son of Thomas W. and Carolyn L. Hewett of Garfield, departed on deployment to Okinawa.

Contestants competing for the title of Miss Pea Ridge were Angela Dawn Frazier, Stephanie Marie Goines, Cristy Lynn Graham, Jennifer Hattie McDaniel and Stephanie Ranee Sprinkel.

Jim Rowland was the new pastor of Brightwater Methodist Church.

Peter Simon, a Tulsabased pianist with worldwide credentials, donated a piano and other items to the Seligman, Mo., Senior Citizens Center. He alsovolunteered to throw in a free concert.

Funeral services were held for Roy Roe, former superintendent of Pea Ridge schools and member of the Benton County Quorum Court at the time of his death.

Contestants competing for the title of Miss Pea Ridge were Amanda Smith, Lindsay Kelly, Amanda Rininger, Margaret Mahoney, Megan Blevins and Tiffany Ricketts.

David Miser, a 1976 graduate of Pea Ridge High School, had not been heard from since April 8. Miser drove to Vancouver, BritishColumbia, to visit a friend and was last seen when he left to go for a bicycle ride.

Lillian Dueker of Pea Ridge observed her 101st birthday June 18, at Oak Ridge Lodge. Around 60 guests helped her celebrate her special day.

The 2002 Pea Ridge Mets were league and tournament champions with 19 wins, 0 losses. This team had a two-year, 36-game winning streak. Members included: Denver Bell, Tyler Wayman, Dustin Woodward, Nathan Simpkins, Kyle Brown, Eric Landis, Michael Woods, Randon Webb, Bryce Snow, Jordon Wright, Tyler Ramsey, Kip Kelly, coaches Brian Wright, Rick Webb and Josh Ramsey.
