Library Notes

Work progresses on the library

These last weeks of this year are really flying by.

We were very busy in the library issuing new library cards and helping patrons find good reading materials.

Thursday evening I had the privilege of attending the Pea Ridge Historical Society dinner. The food was delicious and I learned a lot about the Heritage Building where the dinner was held. That building sure has a history and the members of the Historical Society have certainly done an outstanding job restoring it. If you have not seen it, you really owe it to yourself to make arrangements to do so. There are lots of displays to see. And while you are there, make a donation to help pay off the debt incurred bringing this building back to life. They are a 501-C3, therefore your donation is tax deductible.

We learned that some inmates from the Benton County Jail should begin working Tuesday of this week and perhaps into next week if needed. They will be putting up insulation and hanging dry wall/sheet rock. The next step is taping, mudding, sanding and then painting. After that, I think work begins on the ceiling. Progress is good.

All this is possible because of the support of all of you. I can’t say ‘thank you’ enough for all your support in helping make a new library a reality.

I am going to attempt to post some photos of the work going on in the building on Facebook.

Several pre-school and elementary-age students visit the library on a regular basis. It is gratifying to see these young children checking out books and loving them. Thank you parents and grandparents for helping instill a love of reading in these children and for bringing them to the library on a regular basis.

Now that the weather is starting to look a little more like winter, I should remind everyone of the library inclement weather closingpolicy. When the Pea Ridge School District closes the schools, the library will be closed. Maybe this will be a mild winter and there will be no need to close for bad weather.

Each year the library hosts an open house during the Christmas season.

We are hoping you can join us on Thursday, Dec. 20, for hot cider, juice drinks for the children, baked goodies, etc. Stop by and visit for a while and enjoy a treat.

Since Christmas Day falls on Tuesday this year, the library will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, and we will reopen at 10 a.m.

Thursday, Dec. 27. Just be sure to check out enough books to get you through that week.

See you at the library!
