Independent researcher Tom Duggan will discuss the life of timber magnate and land speculator Roscoe C.

Hobbs at noon Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. Born in Bentonville in 1881, Hobbs made his fortune in the harvest of timber and the manufacturing of railroad ties. Much of the timber came from 12,500 acres Hobbs owned east of Rogers. Today that land is the Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area near Rogers.

Writing Group

LifeWriters, a group for people interested in writing the stories of their own lives or those of family and friends, will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3 and Monday, Sept.

17, in the General Store building at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. Martha Estes, founder of the Goshen Folk Writers group, will lead the Sept. 17 meeting.
