Haskell Allen Walker, 70, a former mayor of Pea Ridge, died early Friday, Aug. 18, 1972.

A Women’s Softball Tournament was held at Pea Ridge as a benefit for the new city park.

In the first seven months of 1972, visitation at Pea Ridge National Military Park had reached 107,478.

This was up from the 68,345 visitors during the same time in 1971.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rounds of Pea Ridge celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise party given by their children and grandchildren.

Pea Ridge City Marshal, Loyd Pifer, announced that Dave Fellows, who had been with the Pea Ridge department previously, was hired to replace patrolman Ed McBryde, who resigned to take a higher paying job as a truck driver.

Some 77 residents of Brush Creek gathered to consider combating the vandalism problem they’ve been having and voted, without dissent, to form a security patrol for the area.

The Franklin Miller family, Pea Ridge, was selected for the farm family of the year for 1982.

John Weston, who livedabout a mile and a half northeast of Pea Ridge, brought in a watermelon weighing 59 pounds.

The Pea Ridge United Fund kicked off its fall campaign with day-long softball games and entertainment.

The 55 and Over Club met at the Pea Ridge Home Economics Building for their regular meeting. They were entertained with music by Ann Moody playing drum, Ed Jebousek playing the accordion and Cliff Jenkins playing the guitar and singing.

The Bank of Pea Ridge treated the Pea RidgeBlackhawk football team and coaches to hamburgers and more after a spirited practice.

NEBCO announced they acquired a new/used tanker truck.

Pea Ridge students scored higher than regional and state averages on endof-course tests in algebra and geometry and eleventh grade literacy tests (ACTAAP) which were administered the previous spring.

John Sainsbury announced his candidacy for Position 2 on the Pea Ridge School Board. Position 2 was held by Kerrie Kelly, who did not seek re-election. Rick Webb also filed for Position 2 on the Pea Ridge School Board.

The Women’s Business Association (WBA) of Pea Ridge met at the Pea Ridge National Military Park for its regular monthly meeting. Before the meeting, John Scott, superintendent of PRNMP, talked briefly about the park.

Senior Blackhawks for 2002 were Brett Reynolds, Michael Villines and Joey Wiltgen.

Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church conducted a “community survey” to explore the possibility of establishing and operating a top-quality preschool/ daycare/afterschool care program to meet the needs of the growing community.
