Many council seats still open

— Only three of the 24 available City Council seats in northeast Benton County are contested just two days before the Friday, Aug.

Carol Frost filed for the Gateway City Council seat currently held by Joseph McMahon, who filed for reelection.

In Little Flock, two council seats are contested. Anthony Byars is running against incumbent Jim Milholen and Leon Harriman and Robert Stout are seeking the same seat.

There are 24 seats for aldermen, one clerk/treasurer and two recorder/treasurer seats available in municipal races in northeast Benton County towns of Pea Ridge, Garfield, Gateway, Avoca and Little Flock.

In Pea Ridge, both aldermen appointed to fill vacancies on the City Council have announced their intentions to run for their seats, but had not filed as of Tuesday.

Alderman Ray Easley, appointed to fill a vacancy created when Jack Kelly moved out of the city, said he plans to file for election to the seat he now holds. Kelly was

appointed to fill the seatvacated by Jim Dawson.

Alderman Steve Guthrie, appointed to fill a vacancy created when John Cody resigned, said Monday that he intends to file for election.
