Roe reviewed proposals for humanities grants

Wanda Roe attended the fall meeting of the Arkansas Humanities Council in LittleRock on Nov. 18 and 19.

The council reviewed the proposals for major grants and funded 12 projects.

They consisted of documentary films, research, programs about historic events and people as well as signs where noteworthy events took lace.

Several mini graphs were approved for schools with reading projects and projects of historic nature. A specialcategory for cemeteries research and upkeep were approved.

On Friday evening the group had dinner in the Arkansas Studies Center. They viewed two art exhibits including the art from the Rowher Camp for Japanese during World War II. Dinner guest Ernie Dumas reviewed his new book, “Dear Letty,” which contains the love letters of the late columnist, Leland Duvall.

Roe’s daughter, Ramona, joined the group for dinner.

Schools and groups are encouraged to apply for grants.

The staff is available to help applicants draw up their proposals.
