Library remodel progressing nicely

— The time is passing so quickly and each day brings something new and interesting to the library. We had a call this past week from the State Library Association with information regarding the Summer Reading Program. It’s time to start ordering materials.

Thursday when I was driving to lunch, I saw that the roofers were busy at the new location. Oh, happy day! They were back again on Friday. However, the wind kept them away the rest of the weekend. They have high hopes of completing the job on Monday, weather permitting. Each day we are getting closer.

Stop by the library and take a look at the floor plan for the new building. It is wonderful.

Last week I mentioned needing information on Benton County cemeteries.

Thanks to Nancy and J. W.

Jordan I have some web site information I can pass along to people doing genealogy research. Thank youso much.

A tourist in the area to tour Crystal Bridges stopped to get directions to the Military Park. She was on her way to Batesville ( I was born there) and I passed along some information about the Independence Country Chronicle published by the historical society. When she left, she gave a $10 donation to the library.

Members of the Library Board have been discussing ways to make money to help fund the new library.

We want to make the new library something the community can be proud of while being ever mindful of the economy. Nancy and Wayne Inglis with Crye-Leike have been generous contributors of books, etc.

for our sales and, alongwith some of their associates, are willing to help with fund raisers, etc. If any of you have any ideas, please let us know. Some days the task ahead seems so daunting and I have to just step back, take a deep breath and remind myself that we will get through this.

Donated books just keep arriving. Ten boxes arrived last Thursday. Now I am wondering if perhaps we should have another book sale. Any interest in volunteering at a book sale? It’s a great way to spend a few hours visiting with friends and neighbors. There are some good books for sale in the library and an older selection of books and magazines for free on the bench in front of the library.

So many of the books on order have begun arriving and I am working like crazy to get them processed and on the shelves.

“Seizure” by Kathy Reichs and “Nightwoods” by the author of “Cold Mountain,” Charles Frazier, have arrived. Also David Baldacci’s “Zero Day” is in.

A new mystery from Rita Mae Brown, “Murder Unleashed,” is also available.

John Grisham’s new book, “The Litigator,” has arrived so be sure to get your name on the waiting list. Several books to help get you in the holiday spirit are here including Glen Beck’s “Snow Angel.” And, for you readers of Westerns, there are a couple of new ones for you.

I read something in the past couple of days that said some people read to escape and some read for intelligence. I suspect most of us do a little of both. For whatever reason you read, I am happy you choose the Pea Ridge Community Library for your reading materials.
