City offices burglarized

— Computers, computer equipment, cash and checks were stolen from Gateway City Hall and the Water Department office, according to Mayor David White.

“All I know is they called me up, I was on my way to the hospital, it was 6:30 of a morning,” White said. “I ran down there ... it was vandalized, too.”

A Benton County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol noticed the front door open on the building about6 a.m. Friday, according to BCSO Capt. Mike Jones, who said he did not yet have a monetary value on the loss.

White said there was a new Dell computer in the Water Department office and an older computer in City Hall. He said he scheduled a special City Council meeting for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, to discuss the burglary and budget replacement items.

“They even took checks,” White said, adding that checks were found scattered along Dogwood Road and that the desks were damaged.
