Blackhawk boys take 4th in state

The Blackhawk boys cross country team took fourth place in the Arkansas State 4A Cross Country Championships in Harrison Saturday.

While only one runner cracked the top 20 (Evan Tillman), good depth by the team pushed them to a fourth-place finish, finishing behind the first three teams DeQueen, Heber Springs and Shiloh. As in the girls’ battle, DeQueen won by a scant margin, beating Heber Springs 46-50. Meet favorite Shiloh fell back by over 50 points. De-Queen and Heber had only one senior in the mix while Shiloh will be losing three when they make the move to 5A next year.

While junior Tillman led the way with a 20th-place finish, he was just ahead of freshman runner Nick Hardy who took 22nd place. Sophomore Justin Stamps was in 30th place while freshman Blake Sheppard was 38th, senior Colby Schooley 51st, sophomore Gage Kelso 52nd, freshman Tristan Trundle 54th, sophomore Hunter Sill 56th and sophomore Lloyd Kalberloh 67th among the 104 runners who finished the race.

Final team results for the top 12 were: DeQueen 46, Heber Springs 50, Shiloh 103, Pea Ridge 150, Dardanelle 168, Valley View 171, Gentry 212, Dover 240, Waldron 243, Southside Batesville 347, Ozark 362 and Star City 366.
