Twenty dollars worth of nickels and approximately $20 to $30 worth of other change from a cigarette vending machine were reported stolen during a break-in at the Quicke Shoppe.

Two brothers, Rex and C.R. (Bobby) Putman, each brought home a first-place trophy in their categories at the second annual fall tour of the Ozarks Antique Auto Club in Springfield, Mo.

State Rep. Ivan Rose of Rogers was the speaker at the PTA meeting to discuss the drug abuse situation in northwest Arkansas.

Rex Hendrix reported someone had broken the chains on gates leading into a pasture belongin to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hendrix on Ark. Hwy. 72, allowing 39 head of Angus cattle to stray out onto the adjoining Pea Ridge National Military Park and Ark.

Benton County’s youngest town, Little Flock, celebrated its first birthday Saturday, Nov. 6, with a pie supper at the Primitive Baptist Church. Proceeds will go toward the start of a building for for a city hall/community building.

Beth Trentham won $200 worth of groceries from Pea Ridge Food Store in a drawing.

20 Years Ago Oct. 31, 1991 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Jim Gott retired as superintendent of Pea Ridge National Military Park after 25 years with the National Park Service. Gott said that he planned to pursue a new career in Lubbock, Texas. An interim superintendent would serve Pea Ridge until a permanent appointment was made, probably within six months.

The Bank of Pea Ridge gave school superintendent Marvin Higginbottom a check for $5,000 to pay for the new Blackhawk football scoreboard.

Police Chief Sam Parker who was hired three weeks ago to replace Sam Holcomb said he always wanted to be in law enforcement. He joined the Eureka Springs Police Department in 1989 where his mother-in-law, Paula Stitz, was the only female police chief in the state.

The world had undergone much change in the past century and 100-year-old Cornelia Zoldak, Garfield, had been around for most ofit. She was living with her daughter and son-inlaw, Johanna and Howard Mellor, at their home north of Garfield.

Watch Dog Dads began this year. The name indicates Dads of Great Students. Program coordinator Gail Simpkins said volunteers are welcome every day.

Pea Ridge School Board members sifted through applications for superintendent during a threehour work session at Fred’s Hickory Inn. Applicants from four states, including five women and all three current Pea Ridge principals, began after superintendent Roy Norvell announced his intention to retire.
