Fireworks OKd in city limits

— For the first time, sparks will fly in the night sky of Pea Ridge during June 20-July 10, as shooting and selling fireworks in the city limits is legal.

Police Chief Tim Ledbetter says that while there is not an age limit for shooting fireworks, discretion should be used.

“There is no age limit or time limit for shooting off fireworks written in the regulations,” he said.

However, he received a complaint about the location fireworks were shot on the first day it was allowed.

“The most we can do is issue citations for disorderly conduct or harassment, if it leads to that,” he said.

While there are no regulations such as age or time, Fire Department officials encourage people to be cautious when shooting fireworks.

Ryan Walker, firefighter, prepared safety guidelines for the community as they light the sky.

◊Do not shoot fireworks at pets, houses or another person.

◊Do not point fireworks at yourself.

◊Be cautious of fireworks that have not fired.

◊Keep a water source nearby.

◊Be courteous to your neighbors.
